Lucy doesn’t mind the cold water – any excuse to chase sticks and swim
we had a great first day back after the winter
looking forward to getting back into the building process – doors, windows, decks,….

the cabin weathered the winter very well – everything was as we left it
Lucy and I did the measuring for doors and windows we needed and enjoyed the unusually warm weather
couldn’t paddle across but the views were beautiful under the morning sun
very excited to be returning to the cabin project
arrived yesterday with Lucy and the lake was still just a little too frozen to cross
gorgeous day – went up to 27 degrees!
that is the last of the work before the winter.
glad to be able to step back for a few months and get a fresh perspective on the project.
it has been a very productive season and more was accomplished than i expected – thanks to bobber and mase.
i’m really excited about getting everything closed in and ready for use next year. there’s still a lot to do – windows, doors, decking, walls, plumbing, electrical, solar system, greywater system, composting toilet,….
i will continue to post throughout the winter with any work that gets done in the studio.

the brackets at the back of the main building were easier to install – closer to the ground and the pitch of the roof helps a bit too.
the front brackets were a little tricky to install.
without the front deck they are quite high off the ground.
with a combination of ladders and climbing around on the frame bobber and i were able to get them bolted to the underside of the trusses.
once they were in place the bottom plates were clamped to the posts and holes were drilled for the bolts.
we tarped up the floor for the winter – protect the sub-floor a bit.
some of the bracing remains to keep the frame true until we install the cross-cables in the spring.
we weren’t going to get the doors and windows built and installed before the season ended so we decided to wrap the sleeping cabins with house-wrap to protect them for the winter.
simple and effective solution.

still have to remove both docks and the boat once the brackets are installed.
